As you probably may already know, two-thirds of the human body weight is consisted of water and we cannot survive for more than couple of days without it. Everything in our bodies, every cell, tissue, and organ depends on this substance. When the body lacks water, it stops functioning properly. Therefore, a person needs to drink enough fluids in order to maintain the body hydrated.

Sometimes, the body may lose more water than usually, for example, during extreme physical activities, excessive sweating, vomiting, diabetes, diarrhea, and frequent urination. Hence, this might lead to electrolyte imbalances in the body and thus cause dehydration.

Unfortunately, a lot of people fail to notice the signs that the body sends when its hydration level is low. In order to be on the safe side and prevent potential health problems caused by dehydration, you should take a look at the following most common symptoms of dehydration:

Frequency of urination-the daily average times of urination are 6 to 7. However, the number varies since not every person drinks the same amount of fluids. However, if you tend to urinate less than 2 to 3 times per day or if you haven’t urinated in couple of hours, you might be in need of more water. When you don’t hydrate your body properly, the kidneys are unable to filter toxins properly.

Dehydration is known to prevent the proper transfer of oxygen to the brain. According to a 2010 report published in the Handbook of Clinical Neurology, dehydration is one of the main reasons for tension headaches and migraines.
Dry mouth-reduction of the saliva in the mouth may cause dryness of the mouth. And, if you constantly experience this problem, you should start drinking more water.
Changes in urine color-when a person is well-hydrated, their urine is usually brighter. The more water the body needs, the darker the urine gets. It’s important to note that you should drink water gradually, not large amounts at once, so that the body has time to recharge the organs with water adequately.
Hunger-sometimes, the body may send false signals to the brain receptors for hunger when you’re actually just thirsty. In most of the cases, when dehydrated, you will crave salty foods. So, the next time you feel hungry, drink a glass of water and then see whether the hunger remains or if it goes away. Other people may crave sweet food when they’re dehydrated. This usually happens when the body has trouble producing glycogen. When this happens, you should eat berries, papaya, or watermelon to satisfy your craving and also receive the needed amount of water.
Dizziness– often times, when you lose too much fluid, you may feel light-headed.
